Pakistan is a developing country. we are fortunate enough to have tremendous natural and human resources available to make use of them for the country resources.

Chemistry is one of the subject which plays a vital role in all the technologies, whether it is a texltile technology or leather technology, what to speak of chemical, petroleum, plastic , paint and food technologies which is based on the chemistry. Almost all the technologies in one way to the other has depend upon chemistry.

In 2002 Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of Pakistan has constituted a number of experts groups for the promotion of various core disciplines in Pakistan under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman. The National Core Group in Chemistry was constituted on January 17, 2002 under the convenorship of Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Director (Acting), H. E. J. Research Institute of Chemistry, University of Karachi. The National Core Group in Chemistry is currently working under the Higher Education Commission.

The National Core Group in Chemistry has submitted a PC-1 entitled, "Strengthening of Chemical Science Education and R&D in Pakistan" with the following objects to the Higher Education Commission.
